Design Decisions

The team shared their vision of blending ancient Hawaiian symbolism—particularly the art of weaving stories—with modern design motifs. As a designer, I do my best to combine the client vision, and goals and aspirations for their businesses into my design decisions. My goals are always to ensure that (1) I create identities that are visually competitively and distinct in specific markets, and (2) the client is happy and proud of what they will soon call their own. Recognizing a gap in the market where few brands bridged culture and technology the way Kūka‘i Creators planned to, we developed a duality concept inspired by ‘olonā rope and modern digital motifs. The hexagon favicon symbolizes balance and stability, while purple conveyes creativity, sophistication, and cultural prestige. After a few refinements, the final design aligned with the client’s vision.
