Overview of Client
Even with its strong history of empowering communities, Hoʻoulu Lāhui’s impact wasn’t coming across online. Inconsistent visuals and a limited digital presence made it harder for audiences to see the credibility and heart behind the organization’s work. Before the project, Hoʻoulu Lāhui used multiple logos across its communications, including variations of the ʻulu (breadfruit) plant, which created an inconsistent and diluted brand presence.

Design Decisions
The goal of any brand refresh was to update and strengthen the existing brand identity while keeping what still holds value. Hoʻoulu Lāhui identified the ʻulu plant as a key visual element of who they are and continue to be, so the redesign maintained this symbol and reworked it for scalability and modern use. The new logomark is a simplified ʻulu leaf motif — cleaner, sharper, and easier to apply across digital and print formats. The accompanying wordmark was designed to reinforce the organization's bold and stable presence and credibility. Additionally, I designed supporting brand patterns inspired by the texture of ʻulu fruit skin. These graphics add dimension to the brand and provide flexible assets for future collateral, social media, and event materials. The result is a refreshed identity that still retains the essence of Ho'oulu Lāhui while offering more versatility, consistency, and professionalism for future use.
