The PIO Lūʻau is Azusa Pacific University's flagship student-led event — the largest on campus, drawing 700–800 attendees and generating more revenue than any other student program. Because the planning committee turns over every year, each incoming team inherits an established standard they don’t necessarily have to build from scratch but is expected to maintain and elevate. Without renewed strategy, the brand risked of running stale in the minds of its public, weakening its brand reputation.

The brand did not require a change in reputation. The opportunity was to reinforce its position as more than an annual performance: a premier celebration of Polynesian culture that authentically represents Pacific Island communities while reflecting PIO's Christian values.
Design a complete event visual identity centered on and built around the theme, "The Aroma of Christ," in support of the lūʻau’s long-term brand positioning. The system extended across every touchpoint to create a cohesive, professional experience.

The design explored the biblical concept of believers as the "aroma of Christ" (2 Corinthians 2:15), making Christ’s character the foundation of the visual identity, and pointing the aesthetic toward elegance and restraint over spectacle. Floral motifs were drawn from across Polynesia — Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan, Fijian, and beyond — chosen not just for fragrance, but as cultural symbols connecting the Christian faith to the diverse traditions within the Pacific Island community.
